Why Are Alternative Medicine Herbs Important?

Since ancient times, horticultural herbs have been utilized in medicine to treat all kinds of diseases that can occur to man in his whole life. Healthcare developed first with the herbs and these herbs were respected for their diversity. The plants in ancient times were not just used for medicinal purposes but were also used to make clothes, food, money and shelter. Herbs have now caught the attention of modern man because now they have started understanding and respecting the medicinal benefits of these plants.

Do you know why plant chemicals have effect on the human body? The reason is that living things are created off the same organic compounds. Therefore, the enzymes, sugars, vitamins, proteins etc. are bound to have effect on human body. The chemicals of plant that act as antibiotics for the plant are found to inhibit the fungus and bacteria in animals too. Similarly, if these chemicals block parasites and tumors in the plant they are found to have a similar effect on humans too.

The most commonly utilized alternative medicine herbs are berries, leaves, flowers, stems and roots. Extracts from these herbs can be punched in tablets, capsules, syrups, lozenges, tinctures, teas, ointments, poultices and other extracts. Alternative medicine herbs have been around since the beginning of human life and hold a strong and extensive history. Actually, if you look closely, then you will find that most of the normal medicines and other cosmetics that you use have been created out of these plant herbs in a synthesized format.

We can take the example of any modern day scientific medicine and you will find a relation of that medicine with a particular herb. For example, Vincristine, a cancer medicine, is created from herb periwinkle. Then there are other normal medicines that utilize Salicylic acid that you can easily find in the herbs like willow bark and meadowsweet. Ephedrine is another common medicine that is utilized for respiratory troubles in human beings. This is created from ephedra, and ephedra itself is used in a lot of medications for cold & flu, allergy, and sinusitis. Therefore, when we take a close look we will find that most of the scientific medicines are derived from alternative medicine herbs.

The list below shows popular medicines of our ancient times:

Tips to Read Before Having Your First Acupuncture Therapy

It is believed that acupuncture can help with a lot of different health problems, for example, a wide variety of pains, headaches, diseases, mental problems etc. Even though it is not actually scientifically proven that acupuncture can be useful for treating all of those health issues, this therapy has become popular because people report that it has helped them.

Most of the people who are interested in trying out acupuncture are also usually a bit worried and maybe even scared because they don't know exactly what to expect from this strange Chinese therapy. Let me give you a few tips that you should read before paying a visit to the acupuncturist.

1) Don't be afraid - it is almost never painful.

In 95% of the cases, it doesn't hurt when the needles are inserted in your body if you are relaxed. It is mostly because acupuncture needles are much thinner than the regular sewing needles. Also they are never inserted deep and in some cases (mostly Japanese acupuncture) the needles just touch your skin without any insertion at all.

2) Don't worry - you are not going to lie there naked.

Acupuncture points are all over your body and which ones will the acupuncturist use depends on the diagnosis. It is very popular to use points on your back, feet and ears. Usually you have to uncover just a small area of your body. You can expect that the acupuncturist will use approximately some 15 to 30 needles.

3) Be calm - relax your mind and your body.

If you want to have a pleasant and comfortable therapy then it is suggested to let yourself relax and maybe even fall asleep for some time. It could actually be very beneficial and make the therapy more effective. Also try not to move your body too much when the needles are inserted in your body as it can cause some pain.

4) Be patient - the results are not usually quick.

People usually feel energized and revitalized after their first acupuncture therapy but it almost always takes several procedures to see some long-term results. Don't expect that all your pain will go away after the first time - instead try to visit your acupuncturist, for example, twice a week for a month and then take a look at your progress.

5) Be smart - know when to quit.

It is certainly not smart to quit after your first procedure just because your symptoms have not gone away, however, it is also useless to waste your time and money if acupuncture obviously doesn't work for you. If it is already your 10th treatment and you still haven't experienced any improvement then it is probably the time to stop and try something else.

6) Be secure - choose only qualified practitioners.

If you want to feel safe during the therapy then definitely check if your therapist is a member of a professional acupuncture organization. Acupuncture is generally a very safe and harmless procedure but only if it is done by a qualified specialist.

The Key to Being Positive

As you progress through your daily routines you are surrounded by many different types of people. Some people will try and hold you back or prevent you from getting the life you have chosen, trying to influence you to do what they want. However, for many of the go-getters in life, being positive is quite easy to accomplish. But for the vast majority, positivity is harder to come by and retain.

Overcoming negative thoughts can be an extremely difficult exercise and for some their sole purpose in life is being positive. The work that it takes to achieve this can be very time consuming and, as you begin your quest, because it is entirely different from anything you have ever done before, it may seem impossible but it is not.

Whether you like it or not, your daily life is taken over by routine and it is this routine that enables you to organise and progress to the best of your ability. If a daily self help programme is incorporated into this daily routine therefore becoming a habit, the advantages are monumental and will take you on to the path of being positive.

It must be remembered that the positive person has an inner strength and can overcome any type of adversity. It has been proven that by being positive any adversity can be overcome. The average person, when told that they have a serious illness, will lapse into a negative, depressed state and wait for the illness to take control instead of fighting it.

The positive person will not succumb to any illness and will carry on their lives as normal, refusing to accept that the illness will have any effect on them at all.

This has been proven by many people and, in some cases, those in the public eye have recovered from the likes of cancer to the amazement of those treating them, solely because they were being positive and maintained their faith and determination throughout.

Interestingly, a particular case was brought to my attention where a man needing major surgery was on a trolley waiting to go into the operating theatre. He looked weak and drawn and a friend wanted to have a few words with him before his operation. The sick man told him not to worry; that he would be alright but the look on the surgeon's face told a different story. Amazingly, the man made a full recovery much to the astonishment of those who operated on him and, when interviewed, the leading surgeon stated that it was only his belief and determination that had carried him through. In conclusion, this man proceeded to live a full and purposeful life for another 20 years.

Think about this and you will realise that if the likes of cancer can be overcome in this way what other spectacular achievements can be accomplished? The list is endless but the only person that can find out what can be achieved, is YOU!
